Experience kicks obligation's booty

Last weekend, Chrissy and I were supposed to the do the Gristmill Grinder, hoping to see views like this:

(Pretty, right?)

Well, this is what it looked like on Saturday instead:

(Man, do I look rough or what?!)

This is what Chrissy's foot looked like:

And we drank some of this on Friday night while deciding whether or not to drive the 2 hours to run (or hobble, in Chrissy's case) the race on Saturday:

Can you guess what we decided?

Yup. Sleeping in, french toast, long chats, lunch at a coffee shop, window-shopping, and dinner with friends won out. And of course, in classic Caitlin/Chrissy style, we enjoyed some of these:

Most of the time, I think it is good to stick with commitments. But when you are sticking with them for the sole purpose of obligation, and the benefits no longer remain for any party, it is time to reconsider. West Virginia is not far. I have good friends who live there whom I want to visit often. There is potential for running a beautiful race - with a good friend who may actually be able to run. These things outweigh crossing something off a list.

We think our new choice for a WV race is this: http://www.wvmtr.org/events/helvetia-10k-mountain-run/

Any other suggestions out there?

For a West Virginia race, I am looking for: rustic, pretty, challenging

Until next time, peace, love, and keep running!
